My impression is there are two broad categories of CIOs. There are those who focus on keeping daily operations reliably going … batch processing and so on. Then there is the other who I think surface in Toby Hatch’s survey that want to contribute to having IT add value.
The dilemma is the former want standardization. But this can conflict with users wanting more business intelligance and business analytics that seek more investigation, discovery, testing and insights. This does not involve standardization. IT and its business users will need to work it out.
